Why hand therapy?

Hand therapists focus on upper extremities, from your shoulders to your fingertips. These are the tools you use to move through the world, and hand issues can keep you from the things that matter most. You might go to hand therapy if you’ve had a work or sports injury, broken a bone, been diagnosed with arthritis or tendonitis, had surgery, sprained your wrist or finger, or are dealing with chronic pain, numbness, or tingling in your upper extremities. You could have carpal tunnel, trigger finger, DeQuervain’s, CRPS, or general pain but– regardless of diagnosis– hand therapy is a non-surgical treatment that’s tailored to you.

Your hand therapists may use splints and orthotics, soft tissue mobilization, myofascial release, stretching, weight-bearing exercises, electrical stimulation, work conditioning, desensitization, functional movement training, ultrasound therapy, heat and ice treatment, or do preventative treatments, make activity modification recommendations, prescribe adaptive equipment, or any combination of the above. Simply put, hand therapy helps you eliminate pain and dysfunction, minimize injury risks, and get back to the activities that are important to you.
